OREANDA-NEWS. January 20, 2014. WISCO H2S corrosion resistance lab finished 8 corrosion experiments of pipe steel X65MS. This marked the successful operation of WISCO H2S corrosion resistance lab.

As the world petroleum resources supply becomes increasingly tense, some oil and gas fields in severe corrosion environment are being explored and developed. This environment usually contains acid medium H2S. H2S could damage pipe line and lead to pipe cracks and disastrous accident. Therefore, the corrosion and acid resistance is very important for pipe steel. The Hydrogen-Induced Cracking(HIC) and Stress Corrosion Cracking(SSCC) experiment become an international standard to evaluate whether pipe steel is acid resistant or not. The pipe steel manufacturer must pass these two experiments for their products before they delivery product to customers.

WISCO is capable of batch delivery of international acid-resistant steel grade X65. However, WISCO could not conduct HIC and SSCC experiment by itself and had to outsource the experiment. This became an obstacle for the R&D and production of pipe steel.

To change this situation, WISCO built a H2S corrosion lab. The successful operation of the lab strongly supports the R&D, marketing and application for WISCO’s acid resistant pipe steel and pressure vessel steel. After qualification assessment, this lab will become an independent lab which is able to issue third party quality test report to public society.
