OREANDA-NEWS. Mitsui & Co., Ltd. has invested in venture company PIJIN Co., Ltd., developer and operator of the "QR Translator", a multilingual translation tool that combines the translation functions of QR codes and the Cloud.

The QR Translator has been the focus of much attention as it attempts to solve the problem of Japan's lack of foreign language displays - the biggest inconvenience or dissatisfaction for foreign travelers according to a survey by Japan Tourism Agency.

The QR Translator is already in use in locations including the Kintetsu Department Store in Osaka's Abeno Harukas Building, Universal Studio Japan's Universal CityWalk, and museums and hotels in various areas.

Mitsui regards tourism as one of the key points for regional revitalization in Japan, and will aim to contribute to regional revitalization by leveraging its own networks to extensively expand the implementation of QR Translator, and create a 'barrier free' language environment. In addition, Mitsui is also looking at the use of QR Translator outside the tourism sector, for instance in electronic product manuals, food ingredient lists, and in the multi-faceted applications in industry depending on the needs of our business partners.
