OREANDA-NEWS. September 07, 2015. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has announced the finalists for the 2016 Private Sector Infrastructure Sustainability Awards, or the Infrastructure 360° Awards, which identify, assess and reward sustainable infrastructure investments made by the private sector and public-private partnerships in the IDB's 26 borrowing member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Developed jointly with the Harvard Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure and managed by CG/LA, the Awards seek to promote the integration of sustainability into the planning, design, construction and operation of infrastructure projects. Eligible projects must have at least at 70 percent of construction works completed or have been in operation during the past three years, must have a total investment of \\$30 million or more, and have at least 51 percent equity owned by a private sector entity.

"When providing critical financing for private sector led infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean, we place great value on sustainability to improve people's quality of life and mitigate the effects of climate change," said Hans Schulz, IDB Vice President for the Private Sector. “The projects selected as finalists contemplate powerful innovations that benefit the region."

The finalists for the 2016 Infrastructure 360° Awards are:

  • Choluteca Project - Honduras
  • Chilca UNO - Peru
  • Atotonilco Water Treatment Plant - Mexico
  • Dominica Wind Farm - Mexico
  • CTR Rio Municipal Solid Waste - Brazil
  • Generaci?n Andina – Peru
  • Termoverde Caieiras - Brazil
  • Point Fortin Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Facility - Trinidad and Tobago
  • Maranh?o Grain Terminal (Tegram) - Brazil
  • Ucuquer II Wind Farm - Chile
  • Biogas Central Buen Ayre Plant - Argentina

Projects were submitted online through a self-evaluation tool developed by the Harvard Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure. Each finalist will now submit additional documents and materials to be reviewed by the Harvard-Zofnass team. The team will then prepare a detailed assessment of each project for review by the nine-member panel of international experts that will choose the winners.

The awards ceremony will take place as part of the IDB Group's Annual Meeting in April, 2016 in The Bahamas.
