The FTSE ST Fledgling Index comprises free-float weighted, liquidity-screened stocks listed on the Singapore Exchange Main Board that are too small to be included in the FTSE ST All-Share Index. It represents the performance of companies ranked below the top 97% of those listed on the SGX. As at the end of March, there were 327 constituents in the index.

Within the FTSE ST Fledgling Index, there are nine stocks that represent the Semiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment industry, according to the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®). According to GICS®, these Semiconductor plays are manufacturers of semiconductors, semiconductor equipment, and/or related products. The nine stocks have generated a dividend-boosted total return of 25.3% in the year thus far, with a median price gain of 5.0%.

The MSCI World Semiconductor & Semiconductor Equipment Industry Group Index comprises of global companies primarily involved in the design, distribution, manufacture, and sale of semiconductors. The Index experienced a price decline of 14.1% in the year thus far, and averaged a dividend yield of 2.7%. By comparison the aforementioned nine semiconductor plays averaged a price gain of 16.4% and dividend yield of 4.6%.

In the year-to-date, Manufacturing Integration Technology was the best performer among the nine, with its share price more than doubling by 138.6%, and generating a total return of 150.1%. Three other stocks – Sunright, Avi-Tech Electronics and Micro-Mechanics (Holdings) – have generated YTD total returns of 80%, 42.6% and 15.7% respectively.

Micro-Mechanics (Holdings)

Micro-Mechanics (Holdings) designs, manufactures, and markets high precision tools, parts, and assemblies for the semiconductor, medical, aerospace, and other high technology industries.

CDW Holding

CDW Holding produces and supplies precision components for mobile communication equipment, gamebox entertainment equipment, consumer and information technology equipment, office equipment, and electrical appliances. The company operates through three segments: LCD Backlight Units, Office Automation, and LCD Parts and Accessories.
