OREANDA-NEWS In October 2024, Russia supplied India with a record amount of timber. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the data of the Indian statistical service.

During the month, the Asian country purchased more than $6.2 million worth of Russian wood and products. In annual terms, the indicator increased 3.9 times, compared to September — 3.8 times.

The October import volume was the highest since 2007. Since the beginning of the year, New Delhi's purchases of wood and wood products from Moscow have reached $26.6 million, one and a half times more than last year's figures.

Indians were most active in purchasing glued plywood ($3.1 million) and sawn timber ($2.1 million). In addition, lumber (740 thousand dollars), wooden cutlery (160 thousand), as well as construction materials (50 thousand) and other products were supplied to Asian countries.

In 2024, the total volume of Russian timber exports by rail fell by nine percent year-on-year. In January-September, domestic exporters were able to export 7.3 million tons of lumber abroad. At the same time, supplies of roundwood decreased by 18 percent year-on-year, to 1.2 million. This trend was explained, among other things, by the legislative restriction on the export of wood raw materials.
