Wine production in Russia has collapsed

OREANDA-NEWS In January and February, wine production in Russia collapsed. This is reported by Interfax with reference to data from Rosalokoltabakcontrol (RATK).
Vodka production increased by 1.5 percent in two months, to 7.7 million decaliters (dal). The output of alcoholic beverages increased to 2.2 million dal (plus 4.2 percent). Cognac production fell by 20.5 percent, to 751.2 thousand dal.
The production of grape wines decreased by 14.2 percent to 4.4 million dal over the same period. In terms of sparkling wine production, the figure decreased by 21.6 percent, to 1.9 million dal. The production of liqueur wines fell by 39.6 percent, to 123.9 thousand dal.
Since the beginning of the year, the production of weak alcohol has also fallen by 38 percent, to 131,000 dal. In general, the market (except beer, beer drinks, cider, poire and mead) decreased to 18.4 million dal (minus 8.2 percent year-on-year).
In January, Georgia exported 2.9 thousand tons of wine to Russia, which is 15.9 percent more than in the same month a year earlier. The Russian Federation increased purchases year—on-year and in value terms - from 6.9 to 8 million dollars. Thus, wine supplies to Russia in early 2026 accounted for approximately two-thirds of Georgia's wine exports totaling $12.2 million. The drop in the latest indicator compared to last January was 6.2 percent.
