OREANDA-NEWS Fraudsters stopped limiting their schemes to one call and began to actively use complex schemes with two or more calls, MTS Defender told RIA Novosti.
"In the first quarter of 2026, the number of fraudulent calls using complex multi-stage schemes increased in Russia. According to the MTS Defender service, if in 2025 attackers were often limited to one call, now there are two or more attempts to deceive Russians. The number of such calls increased by 4% compared to the first quarter of last year," the service said.
Complex schemes involve a chain of calls in order to gain the victim's trust and force them to hand over their savings or personal data. The main target of scammers is the elderly over the age of 65, they account for 58% of all multi-stage fraudulent calls. Standard methods of deception are becoming less effective, so criminals are switching to personalized schemes with increased psychological pressure.
