OREANDA-NEWS The popular WhatsApp messenger faces a fine in Russia for not removing prohibited content — Roskomnadzor has drawn up a corresponding protocol against the company.

It is clarified that the court in Moscow received a protocol against the company under part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offences (failure by the owner of the site to delete information if the obligation to delete it is provided for by Russian law).

This provision provides for the imposition of an administrative fine. Its size for legal entities is from eight hundred thousand to four million rubles. At the same time, the company is being prosecuted for the first time in Russia under this article.

Earlier, Google was fined for a similar article in Russia. The company was ordered to pay three million rubles for not removing videos with prohibited information, including LGBT propaganda.

Before that, a fine for the same offense was issued by the Wikimedia Foundation. The reason was an article in the online encyclopedia "Wikipedia" about the battles for the city of Akhtyrka in February-March 2022.
