OREANDA-NEWS Two companies have accused Azerbaijan that the oil supplied via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline is contaminated with fuel containing organic chlorides, which are used to increase production of raw materials. The first to announce this was British Petroleum (BP Plc), which is the largest oil producer in the republic, Bloomberg writes.

According to the company, we are talking about the contamination of separate batches of oil. Organic chlorides, which may have mixed with the raw materials, can significantly damage refineries and equipment.

Large volumes of oil from Azerbaijan flow through the pipeline to the Ceyhan port in Turkey, and BP Plc operates the company that built the pipeline. "BTC Co. is currently assessing the quality of crude oil at all facilities along the pipeline," BP noted.

The acquisition of some of the contaminated raw materials was also announced by the Italian Eni SpA. It ended up at its refineries, which was revealed during internal tests.

"Now the oil already entering our systems will be processed without risk to the environment, health or safety," said a representative of the Italian company.
