OREANDA-NEWS The UK has significantly reduced its gas and oil imports from Russia, Kwazi Kwarteng, Minister for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, said during a speech at a conference in London. He noted that this happened by 75% and 50%, respectively, TASS reports.

“In the UK, we have already reduced Russian gas imports by 75% compared to the same period last year, and the share of oil imports from Russia has halved. We received the last cargo of Russian LNG on March 2 this year,” Kwarteng said.

Kvarteng acknowledged that despite the “hail of sanctions”, Moscow manages to maintain control over gas supplies and use it “as a weapon”. He added that the kingdom, despite the reduction in imports, remains dependent on the situation on the gas market and vulnerable, since it does not control this segment. However, according to the minister, the UK will continue to work to change the current situation.

Earlier, the UK imposed new sanctions against Russia. The Kingdom banned the export of cash pounds to the Russian Federation, as well as goods and technologies related to shipping and oil refining.
