EU increased LNG imports from Russia

OREANDA-NEWS EU countries imported 14% more liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in June than last year, according to data from the analytical center in the field of energy CREA, analyzed by the Welt am Sonntag publication.
"In June, EU countries imported 14% more LNG from Russia than a year earlier," the newspaper reported.
Russia's revenues from the sale of raw materials have grown to 60 million euros per day, the newspaper claims. According to CREA, France has purchased the most Russian LNG. In June alone, four times more gas arrived at the port of Montoire de Bretagne than in May.
In general, according to the Bruegel analytical center, in the second quarter, the share of Russian natural gas amounted to 13.4% of total gas imports to the EU. Against the background of the Iranian crisis, Qatar has actually dropped out of supply chains as one of the world's largest gas exporters, the newspaper notes. Thus, the share of gas imports from Russia has been at approximately the same level since 2022.
In January, the EU Council approved a regulation on phasing out imports of Russian LNG and pipeline gas.
The Russian Federation previously stated that the West had made a serious mistake by refusing to buy hydrocarbons from Russia - it would fall into a new, stronger dependence due to higher prices, and those who refused would still buy more expensive through intermediaries and would buy Russian oil and gas.
