Europe is experiencing an energy crisis, Macron said

OREANDA-NEWS Europe is experiencing an energy crisis in a new form: it has refused to supply cheap Russian gas, and the situation around the Strait of Hormuz has once again exposed the vulnerability of European economies, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
"Europe as a whole has serious dependencies, which means that if we want to simultaneously be more sovereign, competitive and achieve our carbon reduction goals, we have a serious energy problem," Macron said at an economic forum in Madrid. His speech is being broadcast on the social networks of the Elysee Palace.
He noted that Europe refused Russian supplies because of the situation in Ukraine and lost cheap gas, which fed the "Lorraine Europe", the industrial core of the continent, pulling the rest of the economy.
"Today we see this crisis, if I may say so, in a new form – this is a new energy crisis," the French leader stated.
Today, as Macron stressed, European countries have a real dependence on fossil fuels.
"We see this clearly from what is happening in the Strait of Hormuz, which creates problems for us. Even countries like Spain or France, which have significantly reduced carbon emissions, each in their own way, still have these dependencies," the French president noted.
