OREANDA-NEWS In the first quarter of 2026, the European Union (EU) reduced purchases of Russian natural gas. This was reported by TASS with reference to Eurostat.

We are talking about both the pipeline version of this energy carrier and the liquefied (LNG). The scale of the drop is estimated at one and a half times, up to 3.2 billion euros.

In total, the EU bought 1.2 billion euros worth of pipeline gas in the first quarter. For LNG, this figure was two billion.

In March, the EU member states spent 933 million euros on Russian LNG. The main buyers were Spain and France. The expenses of the first were estimated at 359 million, and the second at 320 million. Belgium imported LNG from Russia for 254 million.

The March import of pipeline gas from Russia was estimated by Eurostat at 414 million euros.

Earlier it was reported that by the end of March, the total cost of supplies of liquefied natural gas from Russia to the EU countries reached its maximum value in more than a year. In annual terms, the indicator increased by 12.5 percent.
