OREANDA-NEWS The US authorities want to halve Russia's revenues from sales of energy resources (mainly oil and gas) by 2030. This is reported by the Financial Times newspaper with reference to the Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Jeffrey Pyatt.

According to him, Western sanctions against Russia, including American restrictions, will last "for many years" to curb the military potential of the Russian Federation and reduce the country's ability to finance the continuation of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. "We're going to do everything we can to make this a reality," Pyatt said.

After the introduction of large-scale international sanctions against Russian oil, Moscow began using the so-called shadow fleet to circumvent restrictions on the maritime transportation of raw materials. The American official clarified that the US authorities intend to do everything possible to reduce the effectiveness of such a scheme to circumvent sanctions. The International Energy Agency (IEA), in turn, predicts that the continuation of Western restrictions may lead to a decrease in Russia's energy revenues by 40-50 percent by 2030.
