OREANDA-NEWS Transnistria will return to a state of emergency in the economy due to difficulties with gas supplies. The fact that the republic is facing difficulties was announced by President Vadim Krasnoselsky, his words are quoted by the press service.
During the conference call, the head of the republic noted that the state of emergency is necessary to overcome the difficulties associated with the supply of natural gas to the republic. This is a temporary measure, but it is being introduced once again. The reason is the decrease in the rate of settlement operations in the territory of the European Union.
"The deputy Chairman of the Pridnestrovian government, Sergei Obolonik, stressed that all participants are taking possible measures to restore the normal gas supply regime. Nevertheless, in the current situation, the supply of gas for industrial use is limited in order to fully meet the needs of the population of Transnistria," the press service quoted Krasnoselsky as saying.
At the beginning of 2025, Gazprom stopped supplying gas to Moldova due to Moldovagaz's debts. Supplies to Transnistria also stopped. The proposal of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to switch the local GRES to Ukrainian coal was rejected due to the lengthy and expensive process.
In the summer, Moldova wanted to exclude Moldovagaz, a company associated with Russia, from fuel supplies. According to the Prime Minister of the Republic Dorin Rechan, after this step, gas for households will be purchased by Energocom. The government will be directly responsible for supplying fuel to the population.
