OREANDA-NEWS  Russia and the Republic of the Congo plan to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a pipeline for the transportation of petroleum products in an African country with the involvement of a Russian company before the Russia-Africa summit, which will be held in St. Petersburg in July 2023, Russian Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo Georgy Chepik told reporters.

He noted that the immediate plans for the development of relations between Russia and the Republic of the Congo include a project to create a petroleum product pipeline between the largest cities of the African country - Pointe Noire and the capital Brazzaville. "It is called by the points through which it passes - Pointe-Noir - Lutete - Maluku-Tresho," said Chepik.

According to him, at the meeting of the sixth intergovernmental trade and economic commission in September 2022, a decision was made on the need to sign an intergovernmental agreement between the Government of Russia and the Republic of the Congo on the construction of a pipeline for the supply of petroleum products. "It is assumed that this agreement will be signed before the Russia-Africa summit and, probably, a joint venture will be created, which will already deal with practical issues, and a concession agreement will be signed," the diplomat said.
