OREANDA-NEWS Europe continues to buy Russian gas due to a shortage of resources, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak explained. His words are quoted by TASS.

"Yes, they switched to liquefied natural gas to a greater extent, but this, in fact, is a rejection of our cheap reliable supplies, there are big risks for consumers both in terms of pricing and in terms of volumes," he stated. According to Novak, the volume of supplies to Europe has decreased by about two-thirds.

In a recent conversation with Lenta independent expert of the resources and energy market Vladimir Demidov suggested that gas supplies from Russia to the European Union (EU) may increase. "The only thing that remains with us from the pipeline gas is a pipe that runs through Ukraine, but there, we understand, the situation is difficult, and it is hardly possible to talk about increasing pumping through the territory of Ukraine now. Therefore, all that remains is supplies from both the Baltic States and the Northern Seas from our main LNG suppliers, Novatek and Gazprom. Only these supplies can be, because there are no sanctions imposed on LNG, so it is present in Europe," he said.

According to the forecasts of the International Energy Agency, the supply of Russian pipeline gas to the EU countries in 2023 may decrease by 65 percent and amount to 20-25 billion cubic meters.
