OREANDA-NEWS Russia receives many applications for the purchase of gas from alternative markets, they are "voracious," said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.
Peskov noted that Russia is ready to supply gas to Europe if volumes remain after sale to alternative markets.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would instruct the government, together with Russian companies, to work out the issue of natural gas supplies from Russia to promising markets. The Head of State noted that it might be more profitable for Russia to stop supplies to the European market now, before the EU restrictions take effect, and to enter new markets and gain a foothold there.
