OREANDA-NEWS China is increasing imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as electricity consumption has increased significantly during the hot summer months. This was reported by Bloomberg.
It turned out that the supply of this energy carrier reached an average of 178,000 tons per day. This is the highest level since the beginning of February. Chinese importers purchase from seven to ten shipments of fuel per month to compensate for the loss of supplies from Qatar.
The agency noted that the Middle East conflict has led to a reduction in imports from the Persian Gulf. However, the decrease in Qatari imports was offset by purchases from Canada, Malaysia and Russia.
It is assumed that the surge in demand for LNG from China may increase competition for cargoes between Asia and Europe.
Earlier it was reported that Vietnam showed interest in purchasing Russian liquefied natural gas. At the end of March, a preliminary contract for the supply of this energy source was already signed.
