OREANDA-NEWS. The promise of the Russian authorities to reduce oil production in May–June 2020 by 2.5 million barrels per day is threatened with dissension among oil companies which cannot agree on who should cut their volumes and how much. This is reported by Financial Times, citing sources aware of the negotiations.

According to the interlocutors of the newspaper, each of the oil companies seeks to protect their own projects. According to analysts, if all companies will reduce production in proportion to their contribution to the total volume in Russia, Rosneft will have to cut daily production by 600–630 thousand barrels, and Lukoil by 240–270 thousand barrels.

Some oil companies object to the distribution of volumes to be reduced in proportion. Such enterprises (the publication does not name them) seek benefits for themselves, citing the fact that a proportional reduction threatens to halt operations at some fields, the resumption of development of which will be extremely expensive or even impossible in future.
