Tatarstan has found a way to reduce the risks of producing "difficult" oil

OREANDA-NEWS A new way to predict which field of hard-to-recover oil is more efficient to develop has been proposed by PINSH VSH scientists. Thanks to this approach, mining will involve fewer technological risks and financial costs due to them. The results are presented in the publication “Georesources”.
Due to the growing demand for energy, oil and gas companies need new sources of minerals, experts from the Advanced Petroleum Engineering School of the Higher School of Petroleum (PINSHSHN) said. In this regard, the extraction of so—called hard-to-recover oil reserves begins everywhere, which contain components with unpredictable properties - asphaltenes, the scientists explained.
PINSHSH specialists have developed a new approach that can be used to predict how profitable it will be to develop an oil field containing a large amount of asphaltenes.
“The result of our work allows oil companies, even at the planning stage, to choose only those wells where financial and technological risks are minimal for the use of expensive production methods. This will not only save money, but also increase the volume of the extracted resource. At the same time, the approach is universal and can be used in different oil—producing regions,” said Timur Gaifullin, Deputy Head of the Competence Center for Research on the Interaction of Technologies in Oil Production Processes.
