OREANDA-NEWS Starting from July 1, 2026, duties on parcels worth up to 150 euros imported into the territory of the union within the framework of electronic commerce have been earned in the European Union. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, wrote about this on her Facebook page.
The fare was three euros.
As von der Leyen noted, 30 million Europeans are employed in the retail sector. It is the largest private sector employer in Europe. At the same time, a sharp increase in imports of cheap goods purchased online has put European retailers at a disadvantage. In addition, a significant part of such products do not comply with EU safety standards, which creates risks for consumers.
"The purpose of today's innovations is to restore justice towards European businesses and provide more reliable protection for our consumers," the head of the European Commission emphasized.
In early June, information appeared that the authorities of the European Union were preparing to declare a potential trade war with China. The bloc is studying new restrictive measures against Beijing, which should restore the unbalanced economic relations between the EU and China. Brussels is confident that if the bloc fails to quickly restructure itself, increase the competitiveness of industry and create a modern defense base, it will be subordinated to the United States and China.
In China, the risk of starting a full-fledged trade war with the European Union was also assessed as very serious.
