OREANDA-NEWS  Last month, the European Union increased purchases of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. These data from the Bruegel analytical company were quoted by RIA Novosti.

In annual terms, April imports increased by 15.5 percent and reached 2.169 billion cubic meters. Compared to March, there is a decrease of 11.8 percent.

According to analysts, in the period from January to April, the European Union bought 8.976 billion cubic meters of this energy carrier from Russia. This is 18.5 percent more than in the same period of 2025.

At the same time, April LNG shipments from the Middle East collapsed more than tenfold, to 117 million cubic meters.

Earlier it became known that India refused Russia's offer to purchase LNG subject to US sanctions. New Delhi is ready to import gas that is not subject to Washington's restrictive measures.

The occupancy rate of underground gas storage facilities in European countries dropped to 35.05 percent as of May 10, 2026.
