OREANDA-NEWS  The contract of the Finnish state energy company Gasum Oy with Gazprom Export was signed before the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine and is designed for the period up to 2031, the organization does not intend to terminate it voluntarily due to possible consequences. This is reported by Yle with reference to the Gasum statement.

Prior to that, the company indicated that the Russian supplier would be able to claim damages in case of termination of purchases, because the agreement was concluded on the "take or pay" principle.

At the same time, the pumping of pipeline gas to Finland has been stopped since May 2022. The demand of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the payment of supplies in rubles in Gasum was considered a violation of the terms of the contract, which spelled out a different currency, and stopped transferring money for fuel.

The dispute was submitted to arbitration in Stockholm. In November, Gazprom Export reported that the authority recognized the debt of Gasum in the amount of 300 million euros and obliged the parties to continue negotiations on a contract to resolve the supply situation.
