The NATO country has increased imports of Russian gas

OREANDA-NEWS In eight months of 2026, Russia was able to increase supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Spain. This was reported by TASS with reference to Enagás.
From January to August, the NATO country bought 41,576 gigawatt-hours of Russian LNG, although a year ago it was about 30,509 gigawatt-hours. Thanks to this dynamic, Russia has become the third main supplier of gas to Spain. The United States is in first place, and Algeria is in second.
In August, Spain purchased the equivalent of 2,133 gigawatt-hours of LNG from Russia, compared with 2,152 gigawatt-hours a year earlier.
In June 2026, Belgium took the first place among the European Union countries in terms of purchases of Russian LNG gas, which increased imports by 1.8 times in annual terms, paying 268 million euros for it. France is in second place with a score of 257.6 million euros. Over the year, these shipments increased by 42 percent.
In turn, Spain reduced imports of Russian LNG in July. The corresponding figure dropped to 2,088 gigawatt-hours.
