OREANDA-NEWS Hungary and Slovakia are opposed to the European Commission's (EC) plan to abandon Russian energy sources. This was stated by the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Peter Szijjarto, quoted by TASS.
Szijjarto noted that such restrictions would harm the economies of both countries, as they continue to depend heavily on imports of Russian energy resources, including oil and gas. For this reason, Hungary and Slovakia cannot accept the "gross violation of sovereignty" initiated by EC President Ursula von der Leyen.
The head of the department added that the plan to abandon the import of Russian energy carriers was developed in the interests of Ukraine and directed against the Russian Federation. Szijjarto stressed that neither Budapest nor Bratislava agree with the position on this issue and intend to defend the interests of national economies at the EC level.
