Ukraine began to import less gas

OREANDA-NEWS Ukraine has reduced gas imports and completely stopped its supplies through several European countries. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine.
As of April 1, the country has reserved only shipments via Poland. The application was 0.78 million cubic meters— which is three percent of the daily norm in March. There were no applications for gas imports through Hungary, Slovakia and Romania at all.
"Now Naftogaz of Ukraine is probably extracting the remaining gas under old contracts, in particular with the Polish Orlen. That is why imports go only through Poland," the publication noted.
Political analyst Dmitry Zhuravlev admitted that the termination of gas supplies from Hungary to Ukraine may not be so critical for the country, at least during the summer season. However, the cessation of supplies may lead to a significant increase in unemployment.
"There is no gas in Ukraine. This means that we will have to buy it from Europe, which also does not have much of this gas. As long as the weather remains warm, I don't think Ukraine will face any too severe consequences, but life will get worse anyway," Zhuravlev is convinced.
According to the expert, gas is necessary not only for indoor heating, but also for industrial work, and its shortage can lead to a significant reduction in manufacturing jobs.
