OREANDA-NEWS. July 26, 2016. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launched the 4th edition of the contest “Gobernarte - Eduardo Campos Award” that will reward the best innovations implemented by subnational pro-governments, states and municipalities of Latin America and the Caribbean.

This year applications may be submitted for any of the following categories:

1. Prevention and attention to violence against women

2. Women’s leadership and participation in civic life

3. Road security and transportation

The purpose of Gobernarte contest is to identify, reward, document, and disseminate innovative public administration initiatives of subnational governments which proved to be effective and inclusive, and managed to improve the lives of citizens. The award seeks to highlight best practices in public administration throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

The proposals may be submitted starting July 18th, 2016 through the website: www.iadb.org/gobernarte. Subnational governments of member countries receiving loans and resources from the Bank are eligible, according to the contest rules. Alliances with national or other subnational governments, civil society, private sector, or academia will be accepted.

The teams in charge of program design and implementation may submit their proposals until September 5th, 2016 for Road security category, and until October 14th, 2016 for the other two categories.

Proposals will be evaluated by internationally renowned technical experts who will select the two most outstanding experiences in each of the categories. The winning initiatives of the category “Road security and transportation” will be recognized at the United Nations International Conference Habitat III, which will take place on mid-October 2016 in Quito, Ecuador. The winning initiatives of the category “Prevention and attention to violence against women” and “Women’s leadership and participation in civic life” will be recognized at an awards ceremony to be held during the first half of 2017.
