OREANDA-NEWS   In 2022, retail sales of alcohol in Russia increased sharply — from January to November, demand increased by 3.4 percent year-on-year. Excluding beer, beer drinks, cider, poire and mead, 101.2 million decaliters of alcoholic beverages were sold in the country, Interfax writes, citing data from the Federal Alcohol Regulation Agency.

For example, in 11 months of the year, the demand for vodka increased by 6 percent compared to the same period in 2021. Thus, 68.8 million decaliters of vodka were sold in the country during this period. In addition, sales of cognac (plus 4.5 percent) and other alcoholic beverages with a strength above 25 degrees (plus 27.5 percent) increased.

A similar trend is also recorded in the segment of low—alcohol beverages - over the year, Russians bought 13.6 million decaliters of such products, which is 53 percent more than in the same period last year. The agency also reported that sales of various types of wine increased: sales of grape wines amounted to 48.2 million decaliters, which is 0.6 percent more than a year earlier. Sales of champagne and sparkling wines increased by 8.5 percent, to 14.9 million decaliters.
