For the first time since 1999, Russia bought one type of seed from Brazil

OREANDA-NEWS In July, Brazilian exporters shipped cocoa beans from the chocolate tree to Russia for the first time in 27 years. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the data of the state service of the Latin American country.
In the second month of summer, suppliers from Brazil shipped 25 tons of cocoa beans to the Russian market for a total of 127.8 thousand dollars. The last time domestic importers purchased these seeds from a Latin American country was in June 1999. At that time, the cost of supplies was estimated at $29,000.
Another major importer of Brazilian cocoa beans in July was Japan, which bought seeds for 120.8 thousand dollars. A month earlier, shipments of these seeds went to Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium.
In July, Russia was the largest buyer of this type of product from Brazil. Argentina also made it to the top 3 with a score of 17.6 million dollars and the United States (12.2 million). Chile (5.2 million) and the Netherlands (4 million) rounded out the top five.
In the summer of 2026, Russian importers significantly increased purchases of Brazilian soybeans. By the end of June, shipments had almost tripled year-on-year and reached a maximum of $35.8 million since May 2025. Such dynamics allowed Russia to rise to the 14th place in the list of the largest buyers, although previously it was located only on the 20th line.
