OREANDA-NEWS  Japan began to buy fish in Russia more often after the Fukushima accident: fillet imports have almost doubled in 15 years, RIA Novosti estimated according to the Japanese statistical service.

Northeast Japan was shaken by a powerful 9.0 magnitude earthquake on March 11, 2011. It flooded the reactor cooling system at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant, which led to the largest nuclear power plant accident since Chernobyl.

If in January 2011 Japanese companies imported 1.3 thousand tons of Russian fish fillets, then in the same month of 2026 - 2.2 thousand tons. Thus, at the beginning of this year, the volume of purchases increased by 1.7 times compared to that recorded 15 years ago.
