OREANDA-NEWS  Despite the sanctions restrictions, more lumber and valuable roundwood began to be exported from Russia. This is reported by the Vedomosti newspaper with reference to Roslesinforg data.

Timber exports increased by 2.5 percent year-on-year. Compared to 2021, it rose by 8.7 percent. Against the background of the EU embargo on the import of wood, plywood, wood slabs and pellets from Russia, growth slowed down, as Europe was the main export market for Russian timber producers.

The sanctions have led to an increase in supplies to the domestic market from 20-30 to 60 percent in 2023. The wood, which was previously sent abroad in unprocessed form, now remains inside the country and turns into products of deep processing, such as furniture, Roslesinforge noted. At the same time, the volume of logging of valuable tree species in 2023 remained at the level of 1.5 million cubic meters — mainly wood was harvested in the Primorsky (341,719 cubic meters) and Khabarovsk (93,573 cubic meters) territories and the Republic of Adygea (29,881 cubic meters).
