OREANDA-NEWS From April 20 to April 26, 2026, the average wholesale price for pork cuts in the Russian market decreased by 15-22 percent compared to the same period in 2025. The sharp decline in prices for a popular type of meat in the country is reported by the Izvestia newspaper, citing data from NTech.

During the reporting period, the average purchase price of pork half carcasses of the 2nd category fell by 15 percent year-on-year and amounted to 188 rubles per kilogram. The same indicator in the ham segment decreased by 18 percent (to 232 rubles), shoulder blades — by 17 percent (to 230 rubles), brisket — by 22 percent (to 195 rubles), analysts said.

Experts cited an increase in the production of this type of meat on the domestic market at the beginning of the year as one of the main reasons for this trend. In addition, the situation is influenced by more acute consumer demand, said Svetlana Trofimova, Deputy General Director of Agropromkomplektatsiya Group of Companies for Animal husbandry. According to her, buyers have recently become more cautious in spending. Against this background, the balance of supply and demand in the domestic market has changed, which eventually also affected the change in the cost of pork, she stated.

The increase in pork supply on the Russian market is also facilitated by a sharp increase in imports from some countries. So, at the beginning of the year, Brazil increased the supply of this type of meat to the Russian Federation by 7 times in monetary terms. Despite this, the cost of pork in Russia is still high for a significant part of citizens, experts pointed out. As a result, relatively cheap chicken became the best option for them.
