Russians have become less likely to buy one drink

According to analysts at Check Index, in the first quarter of 2025, drinks began to be bought less frequently by five percent. The demand for black tea fell by four percent, and for green tea — by six percent. The number of specialized outlets decreased by two percent. Sales of fruit and berry teas increased by five percent over the same period.
According to Nielsen, the share of black tea in sales for the year was 83.6 percent, and green tea — 10.1 percent. Sales of sheet products for 12 months, according to analysts, decreased by 3.6 percent, packaged products — by 3.3 percent. At the same time, tea pyramid rates increased by 6.8 percent year-on-year.
In 2024, the retail price of tea in Russia increased by an average of 18 percent. At the same time, black baich tea rose the most in price. Against this background, total tea sales in Russia dropped by four percent in 2024.
In February 2025, China, which is the main tea producer in the world, sharply reduced the supply of products to Russia. Over the past winter month, exporters have shipped $2.5 million worth of tea to Russia. The achieved result was the lowest since February 2023. In 12 months, the total volume of shipments of these products from China to Russia decreased by 1.9 times, and in monthly terms — by 1.8 times.
