Russians have been warned about rising prices for cherries and other summer berries

OREANDA-NEWS Cherries and other summer berries may rise sharply this year due to the effects of frosts in key southern regions, Svetlana Ilyashenko, associate professor of the Basic Department of Trade Policy at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, told the Prime agency.
According to her, some farms estimate crop losses of more than 50%, which will lead to a drop in the supply of their own products. Against the background of high seasonal demand, this will cause prices to rise.
“In June, cherry prices may reach 500-700 rubles per kilogram. During the high season (July), prices may drop slightly (by 10-15%) due to limited supply, but they will still be higher than last summer. Also, fluctuations in prices for strawberries, raspberries, and currants can be in the range of 20%, since the spring frosts also affected their crops,” Ilyashenko said.
Imports from other countries such as Turkey, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan can partially mitigate the situation, but these products will not be cheap due to logistical costs, she added.
