OREANDA-NEWS The North Caucasus and Southern Federal districts will be able to fully supply Russia with fruits over the next seven to nine years, Vladimir Vladimirov, Governor of the Stavropol Territory, said in an interview with RIA Novosti at the SPIEF.
"It is hardly possible to completely replace the import of apples by the efforts of the Stavropol Territory alone. In the North Caucasus, Stavropol Territory, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia account for 60% of the total Russian apple production. The North Caucasus Federal District, together with the Southern Federal District, will solve the problem of importing not only apples, but also fruits in general, I think, over the next seven to nine years," Vladimirov said.
The governor also noted that the berry sector has become the fastest growing in the agro-industry. According to Vladimirova, the Russian berry market is worth $ 2 billion, of which 17% is domestic berry production.
