OREANDA-NEWS In January 2026, pork exports from Brazil to Russia increased 7-fold in monetary terms compared to the same period in 2025. RIA Novosti reports a sharp increase in the supply of popular meat from the BRICS country, citing data from the local statistical service.

During the reporting period, Brazilian exporters' revenues from the sale of this type of meat to Russia reached $1.7 million. For comparison: a year earlier, the indicator was at around 246.5 thousand. Thus, it has increased by more than 1.45 million during this time.

Despite this, Russia still lags far behind the key importers of Brazilian pork in terms of purchases. Thus, the Philippines turned out to be the main buyer of this type of meat from a Latin American country at the beginning of the year, with a result of $ 75.2 million. The top 3 also includes Japan (42.7 million) and Hong Kong (17.9 million).

The increase in imports of Brazilian pork to Russia is being recorded despite a drop in demand for this type of meat on the domestic market. The head of the National Union of Pig Breeders, Yuri Kovalev, explained the decrease in citizens' interest in pork by a change in consumer behavior. Despite the drop in prices, pork remains an expensive product for a significant part of Russians, said Dmitry Krasnov, director of the Competence Center in the Agroindustrial Complex Reksoft Consulting. Chicken has recently become a more acceptable option for them. According to Albina Koryagina, a business development partner at Neo consulting company, this poses a threat to the profitability of the pig farmers' business.
