OREANDA-NEWS Since 2022, the UK Ministry of Defence has spent \$22.6 million on purchasing Starlink terminals and services from Elon Musk's SpaceX company. This was reported by The Telegraph, citing the Ministry's data.
Some of the equipment has been provided to Ukraine to ensure communication on the front lines. According to the article, Ukraine has received over 50,000 Starlink terminals. These terminals are used for maintaining internet connectivity, coordinating units, and managing drones. The deliveries were funded both directly by SpaceX and by Western allies, including Poland and the UK.
Another part of the equipment is intended to communicate with British servicemen and sailors in remote areas. At the same time, the British Ministry of Defense emphasized that Starlink technology is “not used for military operations” of the British army and mainly serves to communicate with military personnel with families in areas without stable access to the Internet.
Earlier, it was reported that the North military group's unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) destroyed more than 120 Starlink stations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) in the Kharkiv region in April.
