OREANDA-NEWS Political analyst Ivan Mezyukho believes that it is impossible to put any trend towards the West's withdrawal from anti-Russian policy. In an interview with Lenta.
According to the political scientist, there is no longer a single collective West. New alliances are being built before our eyes, and Washington and Brussels are in a constant clinch. The United States, he notes, shows London its place with high frequency. Therefore, any generalizations of the West do not stand up to sound expert criticism.
"Europe, on the contrary, is strategically implementing the course of a de facto military economy and is preparing for a global conflict with Russia. Local enterprises are being loaded with defense orders, huge amounts of money are being poured into the military-industrial complex, and issues of troop deployment bypassing the Schengen area are being worked out at the legal level," Mezyuho explained.
However, the expert pointed out, there are politicians within the EU who are increasingly talking about the need for dialogue with Russia and President Vladimir Putin. This trend, albeit timid, is being observed. According to the political scientist, she is opposed by the old political elite.: The elections in Romania were simply canceled, and the former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was under tremendous pressure just because he advocated dialogue with Moscow.
"I think that the number of right—wing politicians and those who profess dialogue with the Russian Federation will increase in the West as a whole," concluded Mezyuho.
Meanwhile, EU countries fear that the United States will stop providing security or reduce spending on their defense.
