OREANDA-NEWS A powerful earthquake has occurred off the coast of Indonesia. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) notifies about the cataclysm.
The tremors were recorded in the area of Flores Island at almost one a.m. local time (four a.m. Moscow time). The epicenter of the earthquake was located 46 kilometers northwest of the city of Ende with a population of over 70 thousand people, and the center was located at a depth of 35 kilometers. The magnitude of the fluctuations was 5.7. It was followed by a series of about a hundred aftershocks, the largest of which reached 5.2 and 5.3 on the Richter scale. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Earlier, a strong earthquake occurred off the coast of El Salvador. Its magnitude was 5.5, and the town of Chirilagua with a population of about 6.3 thousand people became the closest settlement to the epicenter of the seismic event. No tsunami threat has been announced in the region.
