OREANDA-NEWS A powerful flare occurred on the Sun. This is reported by the press service of the Institute of Applied Geophysics named after Academician Fedorov (FSBI "IPG").
According to the strength of the X-ray radiation, the outbreak reached the M1 class.6. It was recorded at 23:33 Moscow time. The duration of the phenomenon was forty minutes.
Earlier, scientists discovered a large active center on the Sun. High activity in this zone has been observed since January 8. The exact number of outbreaks that have occurred in this region since the beginning of the year is difficult to register, since at first it was located on the far side of the sun. Another plasma release in this zone occurred on Monday, January 12 — the recorded outbreak of class M3.3 became the strongest since the beginning of 2026.
In general, the coming year will be rich in magnetic storms. According to experts, the strongest outbreak of point X will occur approximately every two months. Powerful magnetic storms are not expected soon, however.
