OREANDA-NEWS  Russian Alexander Kibalko has been elected to the post of vice President of the International Skating Union (ISU) for speed skating. This is reported by Sport24.

The vote took place at the organization's congress in Tenerife, Spain. In the final, the Russian defeated Bulgarian Stoycho Stoychev. Kibalko has been a member of the ISU Board since 2022.

As a professional athlete, Kibalko participated in the 1998, 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics. He also became the winner of the World Cup (2001), the winner and the silver medalist of the European Championship (2001) in speed skating.

The ISU suspended Russian figure skaters from international competitions in the spring of 2022. Only two representatives of the country in a neutral status were able to compete at the 2026 Olympics in Italy.
