OREANDA-NEWS About 600 Rosgvardiya artillerymen were awarded state awards for their courage and dedication shown while performing military duty during their military service, the Rosgvardiya press service told RIA Novosti.
Rocket Troops and Artillery Day is celebrated in Russia annually on November 19.
"Since the beginning of the military operation, the National Guard artillery has completed more than 6,000 firing missions, while destroying hundreds of nationalists and a large number of enemy vehicles, including armored vehicles. About 600 officers, warrant officers, sergeants and artillery soldiers of the National Guard troops have been awarded state awards for their courage and dedication in fulfilling their military duty during a special military operation," the ministry said.
The Rosgvardiya noted that the department's artillery units are armed with barrel artillery, mortars and anti-tank missile systems. In the free zone, the National Guard troops' gunners perform fire support tasks for operational and special forces units, participate in the protection and defense of important government facilities, provide cover for temporary deployment points, and also provide artillery support for convoys and lighting support for combat operations at night.
"When performing firing tasks, the artillery of the National Guard troops hits various enemy targets: observation posts, firing positions of artillery and mortar units, radar stations, tanks, vehicles, manpower and firepower of the enemy, control points for unmanned aerial vehicles. An analysis of the combat use of the department's artillery showed its high efficiency," the department added.
In addition, the Rosgvardiya noted that the experience of using artillery of troops during their military training is taken into account when training personnel. Thus, the training of artillery officers for the Rosgvardiya, as well as advanced training, are conducted at the St. Petersburg Military Order of Zhukov Academy of the National Guard of the Russian Federation at the Artillery Command Faculty, specializing in Small Arms, cannon, artillery and rocket weapons.
