OREANDA-NEWS. Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine, asked for understanding about the cancellation of the visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Kyiv. He spoke about this on the air of the Morgenmagazin program.

Arestovich said he did not know the exact reasons why Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refused Steinmeier. At the same time, he noted that Zelensky's decision was balanced.

“Our president is looking forward to meeting with Federal Chancellor [of Germany Olaf Scholz] so that he can immediately take practical decisions, including the supply of weapons,” Arestovich said.

Deputy Chairman of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) and Vice-President of the Bundestag Wolfgang Kubiki earlier opposed the trip of Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Kyiv.

The day before, the German newspaper Bild reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refused to receive Frank-Walter Steinmeier "because of his close ties with Russia." Steinmeier himself confirmed this information. At the same time, the Ukrainian government noted that they would be glad to see Scholz.
