OREANDA-NEWS  Armenia welcomes Moldova and Ukraine's negotiations with the EU on membership, Yerevan also has European aspirations. This was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the Eastern Partnership ministerial meeting in Brussels.

"Our Government welcomes the decision of the European Commission to propose to the European Council to start negotiations on the accession of Moldova and Ukraine and to grant Georgia candidate status. This decision is welcomed not only by the Government of Armenia, but also by the people of Armenia, who also have European aspirations," he said.

According to the Foreign Minister, "The Eastern Partnership has contributed to the process of democratic transition in Armenia." "Armenia has made a clear decision to choose an irreversible path of democratization and reform. Despite all the problems we have faced in recent years, the democratization process and the implementation of an ambitious reform program in Armenia have not stopped for a second. And Armenia is determined to continue this path with significant EU support. The latest manifestation of our determination was the ratification of the Rome Statute in Armenia. By joining the International Court of Justice, Armenia has contributed to strengthening the international legal system, while at the same time confirming the sovereign right to make decisions based on its own national interests," he added.

Mirzoyan also stressed that "Yerevan intends to get as close to the EU as the EU deems possible."
