OREANDA-NEWS The Belarusian authorities have suspended the European Cultural Convention, the corresponding decree of the Government of the republic was published on the National Legal Internet Portal on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic has been instructed to send a notification of the suspension of the Convention.

The resolution came into force from the date of its adoption.

The objectives of the Convention are to develop a pan-European culture by integrating the cultural heritage of its members. The signatories assumed obligations to encourage their citizens to study the languages, history and culture of other Contracting Parties; to study their own language or languages, history and culture on the territory of other Contracting Parties.

The document provides that the parties shall hold mutual consultations within the framework of the Council of Europe with a view to taking joint actions to promote cultural events of interest to Europe.
