OREANDA-NEWS U.S. President Joe Biden, meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid, said that the United States will strengthen its military presence in Europe, TASS reported.

Biden stressed that NATO must be capable of repelling threats from all directions - both in the air, on land and at sea. According to the American leader, Great Britain will get two additional squadrons of American F-35 fighters.

In addition, the United States will increase the number of destroyers stationed in Spain from four to six. In Germany and Italy, it is also planned to strengthen air defense forces, said Biden.

Earlier, the Spanish newspaper El País reported that NATO at the upcoming summit in Madrid is ready to decide on the largest military deployment since the end of the Cold War.

The White House press service, following telephone conversations between U.S. President Joseph Biden and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, reported that the politicians discussed preparations for a NATO summit to be held in Madrid on June 29-30, 2022.
