OREANDA-NEWS The Bulgarian National Assembly, despite the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC), refused to discuss the initiative of President Rumen Radev on a referendum on the country's accession to the euro zone, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reports.
The referendum initiative was put forward back in May. Parliament Speaker Natalia Kiselova refused to consider the president's proposal as contrary to the provisions of the treaty on accession to the European Union. On Tuesday, the Constitutional Court declared illegal the decision to reject the request of the head of state.
On Wednesday, deputies from the Vozrozhdenie party tried to include the president's initiative in the agenda, but the issue was not put to a vote. Kostadin Angelov, a deputy from the ruling GERB party, said that since the request was officially returned to the president on May 13, the procedure is considered completed and there are no grounds for reconsideration.
