OREANDA-NEWS  The European Union (EU) has levers of significant economic pressure on China. This statement was made by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, and the broadcast is available on the YouTube channel of the European Parliament.

"The EU has significant economic influence in the world. We have more levers of pressure on China than we usually tend to believe," the head of the European Diplomacy stressed.

According to Callas, the adoption by the US presidential administration of a new National Security Strategy sends a signal to the European Union about the need to be more confident not only in relation to Russia and China, but also to Washington. The European official added that the new economic security strategy of the association indicates all possible instruments of pressure.

Earlier, Callas called on the United States to criticize Russia instead of the EU. She called the accusations of the representatives of the American authorities against the European Union a provocation and added that an attempt to argue with these statements would be tantamount to recognizing them as justified.
