OREANDA-NEWS Anti-Russian sanctions have proved ineffective compared to what Western countries expected when they were introduced, said Jeffrey Sachs, a well-known American economist and professor at Columbia University.

"The sanctions turned out to be pretty worthless compared to the grandiose expectations of American strategists," he said in an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson.

The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the sanctions pressure that the West began to exert on it several years ago and continues to intensify in connection with the conflict in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the policy of containing and weakening the Russian Federation is a long-term strategy of the West, which seeks to worsen the lives of millions of people, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.
